Using a little neuroscience and the work of contemporary poets, we’ll explore how the cumulative power of word connotations in a poem creates multiple dimensions of meaning, adding depth and richness for the reader. Prepare to get hands-on with scissors and teamwork as we dissect a poem’s many layers! Then we’ll reverse the process, asking participants to construct their own poem using connotative word groups generated in the room. You’ll walk away surprised by the leaps your brain can make in both reading and writing poetry.
