“A kelson of the creation is love,” wrote Walt Whitman in Song of Myself.  What is this thing called love, anyway? It’s a many-splendored thing. It makes the world go ‘round. It’s what we long for, look for, celebrate, deny, give freely or can’t quite get to. It’s what the world needs now. Poets of all ages have devoted thousands of lines to this essential piece of our souls. Together, we’ll read some love poems and let them inspire us for our own in-class writing. (And what is a kelson, anyway? Oh, yeah: that’s the part of the boat that makes it stronger. Love rules!)
