AiRLiE PRESS EDiTORS WORKSHOP

“Rhyme and Reason: The Art of Assembling a Poetry Manuscript” with Brittney Corrigan, Amelia Díaz Ettinger & Jennifer Perrine

In this workshop, editors from Airlie Press—Brittney Corrigan, Jennifer Perrine, and Amelia Díaz Ettinger—share advice about how to turn your piles of poems into a cohesive manuscript.

They discuss how to know when you have a full-length collection, ordering and grouping poems and thematic sections, and putting it all together to send to publishers. They also provide guidance on how to decide where to submit your manuscript and share insight about what editors look for when reading for publication.

ViRTUAL LiTFUSE 2021 WORKSHOP:

“Riding the Sestina and Villanelle Dragons” with Lyn Coffin

Lyn Coffin

“Because the long sestina form is for telling stories and the short, repetitive villanelle is best at telling feelings, (these forms) cover the two poles of poetry…” ~ Sharon Cumberland.

Many writers today are afraid of formal poetry. They regard forms as dragons to avoid or slay. But writing in form (a sestina or a villanelle, for instance) can help you discover poems you were meant to write, poems lying (perhaps) below your conscious intentions. In this class, Lyn read samples from “The Artwork on the Backs of Gargoyles,” and suggested ways to approach and eventually “ride” the sestina and villanelle. Participants also submitted poems for group consideration and workshopping.
